KEEVOON Poll: Only 7% of Israeli Jews consider the demographic issue the greatest threat facing Israel

KEEVOON Poll: Only 7% of Israeli Jews consider the demographic issue the
greatest threat facing Israel
Dr. Aaron Lerner Sunday, 10 August 2008

When Israelis supporting withdrawal came to the conclusion that it was no
longer possible to market withdrawal by promising that it would somehow
either bring peace or improve Israel's security, they turned to the
"demographic threat" to justify withdrawal.

While the underlying statistical validity of the "demographic threat" has
been challenged by projections, it remains, for all intents and purposes,
the last argument that withdrawal supporters can offer to nonbelievers
(those who don't share the secular messianic view that withdrawing to the
'67 lines would somehow herald an era of utopian peace).

It is thus interesting to find that despite the Herculean efforts of
withdrawal proponents and the withdrawal supporting media to push the
demographic threat argument, only 7% of Israeli Jews consider the
demographic issue the greatest threat facing Israel.

Poll of representative sample of 500 Jewish Israelis Over 18 years old
carried out by KEEVOON Research, Strategy & Communications
www.keevoon.com on 24 July 2008. 4.5% margin of error

Greatest Threat Facing Israel

With regard to the greatest threat facing Israel
24% Arab countries including Iran
24% Corruption
22% Poverty
12% Terror attacks
07% Demographic issues

The KEEVOON poll also repeated a question from the poll they carried out in
2007:

Is Israel headed in the right or wrong direction?
2008 poll: Right 24% Wrong 60% Don't know 16%
2007 poll: Right 16% Wrong 74% Don't know 10%
