Dweik denies statements on prisoners' swap, truce

Bethlehem - Ma'an - The speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council on
Saturday denied rumors reported by local media outlets about an upcoming
prisoner swap or long-term truce with Israel.

The speaker, Hamas-affiliated Aziz Dweik, was recently released from Israeli
captivity earlier this week.

Dweik called the reports baseless and "totally untrue," but said he would
hold a news conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Sunday to
elaborate further.

Sources close to the official told Ma'an that they expect Dweik will discuss
holding a session of the PLC before the end of this week, along with
reaching an agreement between Fatah and Hamas.

Dweik had earlier said in an interview with Ma'an's Nasser Lahham that he
supported holding a session of the PLC soon.
