PA releases first 38 Hamas prisoners

Nablus - Ma'an Exclusive - The Palestinian Authority (PA) has released 38
Hamas-affiliated detainees in the West Bank on orders from Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas, security officials told Ma'an.

The men are the first of 100 security detainees who are slated for release
in what the PA officials say is as a goodwill gesture to Hamas.

In the city of Nablus, the Palestinian Preventive Security released 13 Hamas
men from Juneid Prison. The security sources identified the released
detainees in Nablus as Nasr Al-Kharraz, Mu'ath Aashour, Ma'moon Aashour,
Haroon Dababsa, Nabil Dababsa, Abdullah Abdullah, Ali Zubeidi, Ahmad
Shashtari, Nasser Al-Hadidi, Saed Uweid, Islam Al-Khalili, and Firas
Al-Hasan. Another man was also reported released, but was not identified by
name.

Another 25 Hamas detainees have been cleared for release in the West Bank
city of Qalqiliya.

Meanwhile, on Sunday the Palestinian General Intelligence released the
deputy mayor of Nablus, Hafith Shahin, a Hamas member who was arrested last
week.

The Palestinian Interior Ministry announced earlier on Monday it would
release 100 detainees on Abbas' directives. The spokesperson of the PA's
security forces Adnan Dmeiri confirmed the news.
