Court supports Interior Ministry decision not to extend passport of Israeli
draft dodger attending American medical school

Yisrael Hayom reports in today's edition that Jerusalem District Court Judge
Noam Solberg ruled against 24 year old Yaniv Harel's appeal to overrule the
decision of the Ministry of Interior not to extend his Israeli passport.

Yaniv left Israel at age 17 with his parents and was declared AWOL when he
failed to return to Israel to serve in the IDF. Yaniv's request to extend
his Israeli passport so that he could complete his studies in medicine at
Columbia University was rejected by the Ministry of the Interior because of
his failure to serve in the IDF.

The Ministry of Interior rejected his offer to serve as a doctor in the IDF
after he completes his studies.
