TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's first home-made destroyer, 'Jamaran', successfully
test-fired a powerful and intelligent missile named 'Nour' (light),
commander of the Iranian Navy announced on Wednesday.

"Jamaran has test-fired its different kinds of weapons during recent days
and after that prepared itself for firing missiles and today in a marine
exercise fired an intelligent missile," Commander of the Iranian Army's
Naval Forces Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Tuesday.

The Jamaran destroyer was launched in a ceremony late February attended by
senior Navy commanders and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

The Mowdge Class vessel has a displacement of around 14,000 tons and is
equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities and is armed
with a variety of anti-ship, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles.

"Jamaran destroyer is also capable of firing different kinds of marine
torpedoes to fight against under-water targets," Sayyari said.

Noting that Iran plans to test-fire fully intelligent torpedoes from the
destroyer in the near future, he reiterated, "The torpedoes enjoy high
intercepting power and have 100% destruction power."

Earlier in February, Sayyari had said that the destroyer, equipped with
guided missile systems, is capable of accomplishing six simultaneous
missions, thanks to the advanced technologies used in the vessel.

Jamaran destroyer can defend itself against under-water, surface and air
attacks simultaneously, he added.

"Several information, electronic warfare, anti-electronic, radar, missile,
under-water torpedo-launching and sonar systems and technologies have been
used in different stories of the destroyer," Sayyari said at the time.
