Report: American Ambassador Regularly Inspects Jerusalem Building Plans

Report: American Ambassador Regularly Inspects Jerusalem Building Plans
Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 7 May 2010

Makor Rishon correspondent Ariel Kahane reports in today’s edition that the
American Ambassador to Israel, the Consul in Jerusalem and other official
representatives of the United States in Israel regularly meet with the
Israeli ministers associated with construction in Jerusalem to get detailed
information about projects planned for Jerusalem.

This ongoing interest is thought to have a chilling effect.

According to Kahaneh, on Passover eve tenders for some 1,000 housing units
in Ramot and 130 in Har Homa were supposed to be published – but this was
stopped because of orders from “upstairs”.

Makor Rishon political correspondent Sofia Ron Moriah adds that in reply to
a question from MK Uri Ariel, in the Knesset, Minister of Construction and
Housing Ariel Atias, confirmed that there is an overall freeze in
construction in Jerusalem and that a thousand apartments planned for sale in
Jerusalem in Har Homa, Gilo, Pisgat Ze’ev and Neveh Yaackov that already had
all the required approvals have been held up from being sold at the
instruction of the Government.

“The last sale [by the Government] in Jerusalem was in December 2009 and
since then no housing units have been sold in Jerusalem,” said the minister
of housing.
