Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate Mohamed Morsy said on Thursday
evening that he would choose his defense minister after consulting with the
Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

During the “Quietly” program on CBC hosted by Emad Eddin Adib, Morsy said
that as the head of the Freedom and Justice Party, he has an “intimate”
relationship with the ruling military council.

Morsy said that this relationship is not affected by personal interests, and
added that the military council’s management of the transition period has
had both positive and negative aspects. He stressed that the generals try to
act in the best interest of the country.

He claimed that the FJP and the Brotherhood seek to correct their mistakes
and improve their relations with other political forces. Morsy said that if
he wins the election, he would form a presidential council that is
representative of the whole of Egyptian society.

He added that he supports holding the runoff election on 16 and 17 June as
scheduled, and he is confident he will win.

Morsy affirmed that he is the only candidate capable of achieving change in
Egypt, saying, “I’m a son of the revolution, not an intruder, and the people
attest to this. I think it is a matter of pride and honor that I was one of
those responsible for Tahrir Square during the revolution. The
revolutionaries want to see change quickly, and the people can hold the son
of the revolution accountable.”

Morsy said he rejected defamation or criticism of the Egyptian judiciary,
adding that commenting on court rulings is an unacceptable intervention.

“I will not support the abuse of judges. The judiciary balance’s out the
nation, and the FJP chose the scales as our symbol to represent justice,” he
said.

Judge Ahmed al-Zend, head of the Judges Club, denounced Parliament on
Thursday after People’s Assembly Speaker Saad al-Katatny, an FJP MP,
allocated a full session to discussing the verdict issued against former
President Mubarak and high ranking Interior Ministry officials.
