NABLUS (Ma’an) -- Palestinian Authority security forces in Nablus have
launched a crackdown against corruption within its ranks, dismissing several
members, the governor of Nablus said Sunday.

"We are continuing with the security procedures and all those involved in
breaking the law will be reached by the security organization. Those who
have not been reached will be soon," Jibrin al-Bakri said.

A number of security force members have been dismissed and administrative
procedures have been taken against corrupt security officials, he said.

"I absolutely deny any plan to overthrow the Palestinian Authority, what
happened in Jenin is very serious," al-Bakri added, referring to an incident
which saw gunmen open fire on the late governor of Jenin's home.

Palestinian police are also searching for suspects involved in murder,
theft, arms trading and burning cars, the Nablus governor said.

Security spokesman Adnan Dmeiri told Ma'an on Saturday that security
services were interrogating military officers and civilian targets in
connection with lawlessness in the West Bank.

Around 50 people have been detained so far.

Suspects are also being questioned over illegal arms deals and other crimes
contributing to insecurity, Dmeiri said.

Palestinian forces initially launched a crackdown in the Jenin district in
response to shots being fired at the Jenin governor's house. Qaddura Musa
died from a heart attack which officials say was brought on by the attack on
his home.
