TEHRAN (FNA)- Editor-in-Chief of the Russian National Defense Magazine Igor
Korotchenko believes that Iran and Russia are two major powers playing
complementary roles for each other.

"Powerful Iran and Russia are complementary to each other," Korotchenko said
addressing a conference on 'Iran-Russia Cooperation in New World Conditions'
here in Tehran on Monday.

He pointed to the efforts made by the West, especially the US, to change the
geopolitical map of the world, and stated, "Russia, Iran, China, India and
Brazil can have a good international standing in the world and be
influential in the future of the world."

In relevant remarks, Iran's chief negotiator and Supreme National Security
Council (SNSC) Secretary Saeed Jalili on Thursday stressed the importance of
constructive interaction between Tehran and Moscow for the security and
stability of the region.

"Iran-Russia constructive interaction will result in regional stability and
security," Jalili said in meeting with Secretary of the Russian Security
Council Nikolai Patrushev on Thursday.

"The strategic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow has the potential to
align the balance of power with the interests of regional nations," he
added.

Patrushev, for his part, made a reference to the variety of areas for
cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, and said the emergence of new issues
in the international arena has reinforced the necessity for further
consultations and cooperation between the two countries.
