Ahmadinejad, Mursi Discuss Bilateral Relations, NAM Summit over Phone

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Egyptian
counterpart Mohamed Mursi, in their first telephone conversation, conferred
on the two Muslim countries' ties and the upcoming summit of the Non-Aligned
Movement (NAM) in Tehran.

President Ahmadinejad said Tehran welcomes close interactions with the
Egyptian government and nation, and attaches no limitations to the expansion
of ties and cooperation with Cairo.

Ahmadinejad expressed Iran's preparedness to transfer capabilities,
achievements and experiences in various scientific, technological,
industrial and economic fields to the Egyptian people.

He also invited Egypt's first democratically-elected president to
participate in the NAM summit.

"Your presence as the current head of the Non-Aligned Movement at Tehran's
summit would be effective in advancing negotiations and ratifications,"
Ahmadinejad said.

The Iranian president emphasized that Egypt's role in this movement is
undeniable, and constructive cooperation between Tehran and Cairo in this
movement can have many positive outcomes.

Mursi, for his part, said Iran and Egypt will move alongside each other to
fulfill the wishes of the two nations.

Egypt's new president expressed hope that he would meet the Iranian
president during the Tehran summit and said, "The Non-Aligned Movement is an
important bloc that like an umbrella covers many Muslim and other countries
in the world."

The 16th NAM summit will be held in Tehran from August 26 to 31.

Iran will assume the rotating presidency of the movement from Egypt for
three years during the upcoming summit.

NAM is comprised of some 120 member states and 17 observer countries.
