Internally inconsistent remark by Abbas to American Jewish leaders

According to the Israel Radio 5:00 AM bulletin, correspondent Benny Avni
reports that in a meeting in New York last night with representatives of the
Jewish community leaders Mahmoud Abbas related to the murder of two Israeli
soldiers for the first time.

He is reported to have said: "I condemn this act and all other acts of
violence against civilians."

The report was in Hebrew but if the translation is accurate then the
condemnation has an internal inconsistency since the two Israelis who were
murdered were not civilians. They were soldiers.

Abbas said he also expected Israel to condemn the recent killing of 4 young
Palestinians by Israeli security forces in recent weeks.
