Yes "Extreme Right" no "Extreme Left" - Israel Radio Anchor Shows Bias
Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA 22 January 2015
In the course of a long live interview with Bayit Yehud leader, Minister
Naftali Bennett, on the Israel Radio Reshet Bet Hakol Diburim (It's all
talk) program today, Israel Radio correspondent and anchor Ayala Chason
asked Bennett if he was disappointed that he has people from the "extreme
right" on his list.
Bennett protested to Chason that while the "extreme right" label was
frequently used by the media that the media never terms people from the left
as being "extreme left". Chason skirted the issue.
Moments later, Chason had the opportunity to prove Bennett wrong as Chason
interviewed Meretz party leader Zahava Gal-On. The extreme left Meretz
party is in danger of failing to reach the 3.25% threshold in the upcoming
elections, in part because the Labor party includes extreme candidates who
would be at home in Meretz and even in Chadash.
While Gal-On repeatedly labeled politicians and parties in the national camp
as being "extreme right" in the live interview, Chason declined to
formulate even one question that included the phrase "extreme left".
