Palestinian National Council Scheduled to Convene on September 15th

RAMALLAH, August 27, 2015 (WAFA - PLO news agency) – Chairman of the
Palestinian National Council (PNC) Salim al-Za‘noun Thursday announced that
the council would convene an ordinary session on September 15th.

President Mahmoud Abbas and al-Za‘noun have agreed to convene the PNC on
September 15th and noted that an extended agenda have been set for the
meeting.

In a press statement al-Za‘noun revealed both the election of a new PLO
Executive Committee and a PNC Presidential Committee are listed on the
meeting’s agenda.

Following a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas and attended by Fatah
Central Committee member ‘Azzam al-Ahmad in Amma, al-Za‘noun said it was
initially agreed to contact a total of 740 PNC members in order to make sure
all members or at least 450 members, who constitute the quorum, attend the
session.

Al-Za‘noun added that if Israel bars PNC members living in Gaza or exile
(abroad) from attending the session, scheduled to take place in the West
Bank city of Ramallah, something which is viewed as force majeure in
accordance with article 14 of the PNC statute, a mini-meeting would be held
in order to elect new PLO Executive Committee members.

The PNC Chairman confirmed the PLO factions have mostly informed him about
their agreement to call for the PNC to hold an ordinary session, scheduled
on September 15 -16.

Al-Za‘noun said the attendees would discuss the PLO Executive Committee’s
report about the Palestinian situation in the aftermath of stalled peace
process, the situation of the Palestinian people, especially refugees in
Syria and Lebanon, the implementation of the PNC’s recent decisions and the
election of new PLO Executive Committee members.
