Tourism Ministry: Tourism as Usual

UPDATE MEETING AT THE TOURISM MINISTRY:
TOURISM AS USUAL

Jerusalem, October 11, 2015 - In an update meeting with members of the
tourism industry that took place this morning at the Tourism Ministry, it
appears that there have been no significant cancellations to date in tourist
bookings. In any case, a series of steps were agreed upon in order to avoid
any possible damage to the tourism industry.

Encouraging statistics relating to the return to record incoming tourism
levels for the month of September that characterized the years 2012-2013
were presented to CEO Hotels Association Noaz Bar-Nir, CEO Incoming Tour
Operators Association Yossi Fattal, Chairman of the Jerusalem Hotels
Association Yishai Barnea and Chairman of the Tour Guides Association Benny
Kfir. According to CBS data, 225,000 tourist entries were recorded in
September 2015, 25% more than the same period in 2014 and an increase of 6%
on September 2013.

In the meeting, which was headed by Tourism Ministry Director-General Amir
Halevi, participants gave updates on the current situation for tourism.
Based on this, it would appear that the press coverage and headlines do not
reflect the reality on the ground. Around the world, countries have to deal
with crises that affect tourism, from natural disasters to terror attacks,
and tourists themselves are aware of the instability that characterizes the
entire world.

Among others, Chairman of the Tour Guides Association Benny Kfir noted that
tour guides have not received notification of cancellations for the coming
month. Kfir related that about 60 buses of tourists who arrived on cruise
ships traveled from Jerusalem to Masada this past weekend. Further cruise
ships are expected in Israel next weekend with visitors who will tour the
country.

Tourism Ministry Director General Amir Halevi noted the list of
international conventions that are taking place these days in Israel,
bringing with them thousands of tourists and participants - including
WATECH, the International Astronautical Congress, IndNegev and others.

It was also noted in the meeting that guests of the Tourism Ministry
continue to tour the country as normal, including in Jerusalem and
throughout - without a single cancellation.

Tourism Minister Yariv Levin instructed a continuation of the marketing
campaigns to encourage incoming tourism that are currently or are about to
run around the world - including the launch of new campaigns in Italy, the
USA and Brazil.

The minister instructed the security officers and the professional staff at
the ministry to be available at all times for enquiries from tour operators
and tourists, to provide immediate solutions to questions or requests for
assistance, as relevant. A Tourism Ministry representative will serve as the
contact point for updates from relevant sources on the ground, other
ministries etc and any relevant information will be forwarded immediately to
tour operators and tour guides.

It was decided at the meeting that:

The Tourism Ministry will work to bring forward the visit to Israel of
decision makers in tourism, who were scheduled to be hosted later in the
year. It was also decided to increase the number of hosted visits in the
near future. It should be noted that the ministry hosts over 2000
journalists, celebrities and opinion-formers a year from target source
countries.

The ministry will assist in easing the passage of tour groups and busses in
areas where there are security checkpoints, by maintaining contact with
security forces.

The ministry will promote the proposal offered by tour guides to provide
free walking tours for the general public in main tourism sites around the
country in order to support local tourism businesses and provide the
groundwork for "tourism as usual".
