Weekly Commentary: Security Arrangements In Deal That Includes Sovereign
State Irrelevant

Just as their predecessors, the Trump team has devoted a lot of time and
effort on coming up with security arrangements that could facilitate a
"deal" between Israel and the Palestinians.

The problem is that if the "deal" includes a sovereign Palestinian state it
would be reckless for Israel to assume that those security arrangements
would remain intact.

It comes down to this simple basic fact: a sovereign Palestinian state
would remain a sovereign Palestinian state even if it publicly ripped up the
"deal" it signed.

And that's the extreme scenario. The Palestinians are smart enough to be
able to figure out how to de facto rip up the deal without making a formal
announcement.

And in all due respect to the United States, it would be profoundly reckless
to assume that somehow American guarantees could somehow address this
fundamental problem with a sovereign Palestinian state.
