PLC Member Fares Declines To Say Agreement Waives Right of Return
Aaron Lerner Date: 13 October 2003
While members of the Israeli Left claimed that the unsigned draft
understanding they have developed with the Palestinians includes a provision
that Palestinian refugees will not return to within the Green Line, PLC
Member Qadura Fares, who participated in the meetings that drafted the
understanding repeatedly refused to say in a live interview broadcast this
morning on Israel Radio that the Palestinians had agreed to forego the right
of return. He only would say that "we have a solution".
Those involved in the "understanding", that apparently is based on the
assertion that this time the Arabs will honor their agreements and thus
Israel can base its national security on Arab promises, told Israel Radio
this morning that the text of the understanding, when it is signed (slated
for around the time of the anniversary of the assassination of PM Rabin),
will be distributed to every Israeli and Palestinian home.
So far no mainstream Israeli reporter has asked where the funding is coming
for this project. Until now Mr. Beilin's operation has been bankrolled by
foreign sources.
