Mickey Gurdis: Airport communication being jammed by diverted

Aaron Lerner Date: 9 February 2004

Israel Radio correspondent Mickey Gurdis reported this morning that the
broadcasts of various radio stations - both "pirate" and regular - as well
as simple radio noise and the sound of motors - are being
broadcast/rebroadcast on the communication channels used for communications
between the control tower of Ben Gurion Airport and planes.

Gurdis said that it may be possible that this is an intentional effort to
try and crash planes.

Gurdis reported a similar situation back on 20 August 2002 but at the time
the focus of interest was on using the radio interference to explain the
closing of pirate radio stations so it is not clear what effort was made to
capture the people actually behind this interference.
