Summary of IDF activity in the Gaza Strip during the night

Early this morning, July 8th 2006, the IAF attacked a tunnel in the northern
Gaza Strip used by the Hamas terror organization to smuggle weaponry.

On four different occasions the IAF targeted armed gunmen in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF fired artillery shells at rocket launching grounds in northern and
southern Gaza. Yesterday 16 rockets were launched at Israel from the Gaza
Strip.

The IDF will continue to act with determination and to employ all means at
its disposal to combat terrorists and their infrastructure, in order to
ensure the safe return of Cpl. Gilad Shalit and to stop terrorist attacks
and the launching of rockets at Israel.

IDF activity to arrest Fat'hi Kandil

As part of a joint IDF and ISA operation to thwart terror attacks, last
night, July 7 th 2006, security forces surrounded a building in Nablus in
which wanted Tanzim terrorist Fat'hi Abed Al Fatah Kandil was staying.
Kandil, who was armed, then emerged on the rooftop and was shot by the
forces and killed.

Fat'hi Kandil, 22, was a resident of the Askar refugee camp in Nablus.

· In April 2006 Kandil dispatched a suicide bomber to carry out a bombing in
the Karnei Shomron supermarket. The bomber and his driver were arrested on
their way to carry out the attack.

· A recently arrested operative linked with Kandil told investigators that
Kandil was planning a terror attack in the Israeli community of Itzhar, in
which an armed terrorist would infiltrate the community and murder children
playing in a playground on the edge of the community. Kandil was also
planning to kidnap one of the community's residents. The operation this
morning prevented these attacks from being carried out.

Kandil's terror activity was being funded by sources in the Gaza Strip.
