Support for Hezbollah on city streets lays down welcome mat for terrorists, says B'nai Brith Canada

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Support for Hezbollah on city streets lays down welcome mat
for terrorists, says B'nai Brith Canada

TORONTO, August 1, 2006 - B'nai Brith Canada has expressed concern over
recent public demonstrations on city streets promoting Hezbollah, a
terrorist group banned here in Canada, as well as many European countries.

"The open declarations of support for the Hezbollah terrorist agenda that we
have seen in recent days in Montreal, Toronto and elsewhere, is a cause for
mounting concern," said Frank Dimant, B'nai Brith Canada's Executive Vice
President.

"Hezbollah is outlawed in this country, and it therefore should be illegal
to wave the flags of this terrorist group on our city streets, an activity
that encourages and promotes allegiance to terrorism.

"B'nai Brith Canada has already presented expert testimony to Parliament and
Senate Committees that have been reviewing Canada's anti-terrorism
legislation. Last fall, we called on the previous government to recognize
open demonstrations and/or support for terrorist activity as a criminal
offence. In light of the recent public expressions of support for Hezbollah,
we reiterate our call to the current government to close all loopholes in
the current anti-terrorism legislation, so that those who promote terrorism
are held legally and morally accountable.

"Hezbollah. Hamas. Al Qaeda. When we surrender our streets to any one of
these terrorist entities and their supporters, we open the door to all of
them."
