Excerpt: MK Netanyahu's Red Lines - Knesset Address 27 October
Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 27 October 2008

The following is IMRA's translation from the Knesset protocol of MK Binyamin
Netanyahu's address at today's opening of the Knesset's winter session
www.knesset.gov.il/plenum/data/06361108.doc

"In our policy the security will remain in our hands. We won't hand over
our security to a subcontractor.

We will develop economic projects in the seam line between us and the
Palestinians and increase the regional cooperation with Jordan and Egypt.
My friends, economic peace is not a substitute for state peace, but if it
succeeds it can be a corridor that leads to a state arrangement.

In any future arrangement we will retain defensible borders for the State of
Israel. We will not return to the '67 lines. The Jordan Valley, Judean
Desert and Golan Heights will continue to serve as the eastern security belt
of the State of Israel.

Two matters are not subject to negotiation: The first is the entry of
refugees to the area of Israel. No nation can engage in negotiations over
its annihilation, and I won't do this to my People. We will not carry out
negotiations on Jerusalem, the capital of the Jewish People for these 3,000
years. I didn't do it in the past and we commit not to do it in the
future."
