$20 million of US Taxpayer's money funding removal of signs that include Hebrew in West Bank

[Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA: It isn't that the signs don't have Arabic and
English on them already. The USAID thinks that it is so important to remove
Hebrew from road signs that it is spending $20 million to get rid of the
signs because they also have Hebrew on them.

Question: Now here I was thinking that the American officials really
believed all that rosy talk about utopian peace if those damn Jews would
just retreat - I mean withdraw - to the '67 line.

In that fantastic peace with two states living side by side in peace and
harmony there would be hundreds of thousands of money spending Israeli
tourists visiting peaceful Palestine along with the droves of Israeli
businessmen driving in to do business with their Palestinian counterparts.

And the obvious thing would be for the signs in peaceful Palestine to, in
light of the heavy traffic of Israelis, continue to include Hebrew - just
as the traffic signs on Israelis roads have Arabic.

So what's the deal?].

Palestinians uproot Hebrew road signs in West Bank
In preparation for statehood, Palestinians replace Hebrew road signs in West
Bank with signs in Arabic and English, according to US aid group

The US international aid agency says Palestinian authorities in the West
Bank have started replacing Israeli-installed road signs bearing Hebrew
script with new signs in just Arabic and English.

The move is in preparation for a future Palestinian state.

Howard Sumka, of USAID, says the American-funded project is expected to take
up to four years and cost about $20 million.

Israel seized the West Bank from Jordan in the 1967 Mideast war and built
military camps and civilian settlements throughout the territory.

Under the interim peace agreements intended to lead to Palestinian
independence, Israel has been reducing its military presence in West Bank
towns. But the Hebrew road signs and some 300,000 Israeli settlers so far
remain.
