A senior Iranian commander says evidence indicates that Alireza Asgari, a
former Iranian deputy defense minister, has been kidnapped by the Israeli
intelligence service and transferred to Israel.

“We have a lot of evidence proving that members of the Israeli intelligence
service (Mossad) have kidnapped Asgari from Turkey and transferred him to
Israel,” Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Daqiqi
said on Saturday.

Daqiqi made the remarks during a ceremony marking the sixth anniversary of
Asgari’s abduction.

Asgari mysteriously disappeared in Turkey in 2007. He is widely believed to
have been abducted and transferred to Israel through an American military
base in Turkey.

In December 2010, the Israeli website, Ynet, said that a prisoner had
committed suicide in solitary confinement in Israel's Ayalon Prison.

The Eurasia Review website claimed that a source within the “inner circle”
of the Israeli Defense Ministry had identified the prisoner as Asgari and
that his death could have been a murder and not suicide.

Following the report Iran called on the United Nations and International
Committee of the Red Cross to help determine Asgari’s fate.

Despite Iran’s efforts, Daqiqi said, no new information has been obtained
regarding the fate of former Iranian deputy defense minister.
