The head of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas said that the release of
prisoners, especially those who were arrested before the signing of the Oslo
agreement, will enhance the chances of achieving peace.

He stressed at a meeting on Sunday evening, at the headquarters office in
the city of Ramallah, with Minister of Prisoners Affairs Issa Qaraqe, that
the release of prisoners will include 104 prisoners arrested before 1994,
and that without exception, no prisoner, including prisoners of Jerusalem
and '48, released in the 4 installments during the coming period, will be
expelled from his homeland.

The president also stressed the continuation of work on the release of all
prisoners, stressing that their case will remain a priority of the
Palestinian leadership.

Minister Qaraqe said that the Palestinian side was officially told that 26
prisoners would be freed on the 13th of this month, when they will be
received officially in the presidential residence by President Abbas and
their families.
