PA embassy: Hamas prevented students from leaving Gaza

CAIRO (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Authority embassy in Cairo on Friday
accused Hamas of preventing students in Gaza from leaving the territory
after Egypt reopened the Rafah crossing for three days this week.

The embassy said that Hamas prevented 115 Palestinian students studying
abroad from leaving Gaza, claiming that they did not have coordination to
cross.

The students had received approval to cross from Egypt, the embassy said,
but Hamas authorities accused the embassy of failing to coordinate their
permits.

Palestinian crossing officials told Ma'an that 830 Palestinians in Gaza used
the crossing, which was reopened on Tuesday for three days.

The Palestinian Ministry of Internal Affairs says over 25,000 humanitarian
cases are on a waiting list to use the crossing for medical treatment and to
continue their studies abroad.

The jointly-enforced Israeli-Egyptian blockade on the tiny territory has led
to frequent humanitarian crises and armed conflicts with Israel, and is
currently limiting the entry of construction material for the devastated
Strip's post-war reconstruction, promised by the international community.
