Weekly Commentary: Our Leaders Should Follow David - Not Saul
Dr. Aaron Lerner
10 July 2020
Our Bible does not pull its punches when it relates to us how are leaders behaved. We see them warts and all.
So we read about their mistakes and how they handled them.
Which brings to mind a fundamental difference between the reaction of kings Saul and David when admonished for errors in judgment.
Saul first downplayed the gravity of his action and then blamed the People for his mistake, going so far as to claim that fear of the public compelled him to sin. David, in sharp contrast immediately took responsibility and blamed no one else..
We need our leaders to follow David's example.
I would mention parenthetically that Saul also detested David because the public, while praising Saul, praised David even more.
