Weekly Commentary: Two State Solution = I have 5 seconds instead of 90 to
take cover
Dr. Aaron Lerner 23 May, 2021
When Secretary of State Blinken says the words "two state solution" in
Jerusalem this week we Israelis will smile politely at his cluelessness.
Just days ago we were reminded of what a "two state solution" actually
means.
It only took the Palestinians a few days to exhaust their supply of rockets
which could reach us here in Raanana north of Tel Aviv and even then we
enjoyed a confortable 90 seconds to take cover.
A "two state solution" means Raanana is bombed from neighboring Kalkilya for
the entire round of each clash and this with a 5 second warning at best.
No thank you.
Today a child of 8 in Israel understands the importance of "strategic depth"
more than the hundreds of foolish ex-brass who kept proclaiming that it
doesn't matter.
And anyone with even the most basic understanding of the region knows that a
sovereign Palestinian state established within the framework of "iron clad"
security guarantees blah blah blah blah blah has a good chance of ending up
being another Gaza.
Not to worry. Just like we won't tell a child the truth about Santa Claus,
the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny, we won't say a word on camera to
Blinken about his infantile beliefs.
Prime Minister Netanyahu may finesse the situation by implying that "state"
could be an autonomy, but that's as far as it goes.
Welcome to Israel Mr. Secretary.
