Weekly Commentary: Hold Bennett To Higher Benchmarks Than Netanyahu
Dr. Aaron Lerner 6 June 2021
It would be relatively easy for Naftali Bennett to match the performance of
Binyamin Netanyahu on pretty much everything having to do with Judea and
Samaria.
But that won't be enough if Bennett becomes prime minister.
The current ongoing settlement freeze which has barely received any
attention could easily become a major issue if the Likud sits in the
opposition.
Ditto for all the illegal Palestinian construction in Area C.
How would the "change coalition" react under this scenario?
Would Yesh Atid, Meretz, Labor and the United Arab List leave Bennett
hanging out to dry?
Perhaps not.
One Meretz MK suggested recently that settlement construction be limited to
within their existing building lines so that there is no "expansion".
That opens the possibility of a construction boom under a "change
coalition".
