Weekly Commentary: Israel allows Iranian Weapons Airlift to Beirut -
Hezbollah Victory?
Dr. Aaron Lerner 8 December 2022
Al Arabiya revealed today that the Iranian Miraj Airlines, linked to the
Revolutionary Guards, has been running flights to Beirut Airport since
November 14th.
When the same airline lands In Damascus we blow up the military equipment
cargo.
Until now Israel has followed a dichotomous approach regarding weapons
supplies to Hezbollah:
- As long as the weapons are in Syria we do everything in our power to
destroy them.
- Once the very same weapons cross into Lebanon the most we do is record
them in our target bank.
That’s because, all Israeli rhetoric aside about how we deter Hezbollah, the
painful truth is that we are the deterred party.
Have we been “blinking†since November 14th or did we know that the first
planes did not have military equipment?
Even if this is the case it is clear that these flight will within a short
period of time start delivering military equipment just as they do to
Damascus Airport.
One can only hope that this move blows up in their faces.
Because once we start bombing equipment at Beirut Airport there is no reason
not to destroy the most critical weapons targets in our Lebanon target bank.
