We bomb Russia allies in Syria.

We do this despite the top-of-the-line Russian manned air defense umbrella
and the Russian air defense systems under Syrian control.

Yes. Right there in the middle of what is essentially Russia's weapons
showroom we bomb Russian allies/customers.

We even have a communications arrangement to warn the Russians when we are
about to bomb their allies so that we don't get into each other's way.

Why? How long will this last? What does this mean for the future?

Good questions.

But for this discussion, suffice it to say that this is the situation today
in Syria.

We bomb some of America's enemies in Iraq.

We do this despite the ongoing complaints from the United States that we are
engaged in activity in Iraq that may have a negative impact on their
interests in Iraq.

The Americans aren't challenging our need to bomb some of America's enemies
in Iraq.

And the Americans aren't lifting a finger to address the challenges we face
in Iraq so that we would not have to bomb some of America's enemies in Iraq.

Yet America continues to complain and even go so far as to make it clear
that they want us to stop.

That's the situation.

And this with Mr. Trump president.

So what does this all mean?

That at the end of the day we need to recognize that even when the closest
allies swears that he "has your back" that that promise is actually "I have
your back subject to my own interests."

Please don't get me wrong.

I am not saying that there is a problem with that position.

Just that we must always remember it.

If and when the day comes that we are told that it is ok for us to make a
concession that undermines our security because America "has our back" we
must remember that that pledge is subject to how it may jibe with American
interests at the time that we face a challenge as a consequence of the
concession.
