Weekly Commentary: Knife In Israel's Back: UNSCR 2735 vs UNSCR 1701

Contrast what UNSCR 1701 was supposed to do to Hezbollah and what UNSCR
doesn't do to Hamas:

#1. United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006)
Adopted by the Security Council at its 5511th meeting, on 11 August 2006
"The Security Council,
... 8. Calls for Israel and Lebanon to support ...full implementation of the
relevant provisions of the Taif Accords, and of resolutions 1559 (2004) and
1680 (2006), that require the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon, so
that, pursuant to the Lebanese cabinet decision of 27 July 2006, there will
be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese
State;"

#2. United Nations Security Council Resolution 2735 (2024)
Adopted by the Security Council at its 9650th meeting, on 10 June 2024
"The Security Council,
...2. Notes that the implementation of this proposal would enable the
following outcomes to spread over three phases:
...(b) Phase 2: upon agreement of the parties, a permanent end to
hostilities, in exchange for the release of all other hostages still in
Gaza, and a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza; "

According to UNSCR 1701, Hezbollah was supposed to be COMPLETELY DISARMED.

That's right.

Whie most complaints regarding the failed implementation of UNSCR 1701
relate to the area "between the Blue Line and the Litani river" it's also
an explicit violation of UNSCR 1701 for Hezbollah to deploy rockets and
missiles anywhere in Lebanon.

In sharp contrast, Mr. "We have your back" Biden's UNSCR 2735 has absolutely
nothing to say about disarming Hamas.

As far as the Biden team is concerned, Hamas returns the hostages in
exchange for all the terrorists Israel has captured while Israel completely
withdraws from Gaza and it's Miller time.

UNSCR 2735 certainly has Israel's back.

With a knife.
