Weekly Commentary: We Never Promised A Dove – Or Hostage Release
Dr. Aaron Lerner

The song, "Children of Winter '73" always annoyed me.
The song asserts that the children born after the Yom Kippur War were promised by their parents' generation that there wouldn't be more wars.
It’s a false premise.
When we say on Passover that "In every generation…" that's not hyperbole. It is the challenge of our existence.
Lately, there is a new fake promise being asserted: that there is no limit to what the State of Israel will be willing to do to gain the release of Israeli hostages – military and civilian.
It’s a ridiculous assertion.
Of course, there are limits on the costs and consequences that the Jewish State can bear.
Every time someone suggests otherwise, they only raise the expectations of the hostage takers.
